Question 1:
In a large metropolitan area, Nurse Floating Flo contracts to float between three hospitals within a 10 mile radius of her housing. Starting in the 6th week, the company ask her to float to a hospital 15 miles away, the 7th week she goes to one on the other side of the city, that is 30 miles away, plus one that is 17 miles away. The nurse is willing to take the first few, but after the behavior continues, she has had enough and voices this to her recruiter.
Answer 1:

First, I would reach out to Flo and discuss the situations that have taken place and acknowledge the way she feels about the situation at hand. I would then proceed to talk to my client manager and inform him/her of what is going on and develop a plan to ensure that our traveler is satisfied. Once we were to produce a plan to fix the situation that my traveler is not satisfied with, I would talk to Flo and update her with a solution and move forward however she would decide is best. I would continue to touch base with Flo and ensure that I am going to be there and always have her best interest in mind.

Question 2:
Baby Nurse Betty is a skilled labor and delivery nurse, who also can float to post-pardum care after the delivery as well as the well-newborn nursery. At 7:30pm, the staffing company hotline gets a call stating that they want her to float to the NICU, which is beyond her competency level. What is your company’s response?
Answer 2:

Uniti Med will always ensure that our travelers and facilities have the upmost care that can be given and if our traveler, Betty is not experienced in the NICU unit then we will ensure that she does not float to that floor. We always want our travelers to be comfortable and ensure that they can give the best care to their patients because we strive to provide the finest care for our commUNITIes.

Question 3:
Nurse Roach is all excited about her first travel nursing assignment. She drives 750 miles to her new assignment housing. After getting the keys from management, she opens the door and three cockroaches scurry across the floor. After further investigation, she also finds a ring of mold in the shower. She can’t stand it and immediately texts you with pictures. How do you respond?
Answer 3:

My traveler’s safety and health is something I do not take lightly. So, in this situation I would have the traveler leave immediately to guarantee that they will not have to stay in an unhealthy environment nor be uncomfortable. At Uniti we always ensure that our travelers are provided with ample amounts of housing guides and discounts, therefore I would take the time to find my traveler a clean, safe and affordable hotel to stay in until we find housing that will provide them with the best stay.

Question 4:
You have worked with Nurse Asthmatic for 3 years now and she has done a great job for you, when she takes an assignment in Southeast Colorado. She envisions magic mountains that reach to the sky, only to find that she has landed in wheat country. Not wanting to cause problems she continues to work and everything is fine, until harvest. She has an asthma attack, ends up in the hospital, and is told that she is going to miss at least 2 weeks of work related to asthma induced pneumonia. How do you work things out?
Answer 4:

First, I always let my travelers know where they are going and encourage them to investigate the area so they can see their exact destination and city they will be staying in. There can be situations that take place that we do not plan for, but that is why I always keep constant communication with my travelers to see how they are doing and if they need anything. So, in this circumstance she would need flowers sent to her while she recovers, and we would need to figure out how she wants to proceed forward with this specific assignment. Whether that be, go back to the facility, add 2 more weeks to her contract, or find a new destination, we will figure it out together to ensure that she is healthy and satisfied.

Question 5:
You have worked hard to find Nurse Roulette a job in Las Vegas. You send the nurse a contract that she readily accepts, signs, and sends back. The next morning the bags are packed and Nurse Roulette is on the way to the assignment of her dreams. At 0800 she is out the door and to the hospital. Checking in with HR, they inform her that there is no contract between the hospital and the company, related to the fact that it has not been approved by HR. About the same time, the recruiting manager comes to you and tells you not to send Nurse Roulette on the assignment. This shouldn’t have happened, but unfortunately it does happen. What do you do?
Answer 5:

Uniti does not send any traveler without signed contracts that are documented or communication from the facility that they know the traveler will be arriving at their facility. Furthermore, in this situation I would non-stop try and resolve this situation by communicating with the facility and working to find my traveler another assignment if need be. I can ensure that this would not take place because of our communication within our company and with our facilities.

Question 6:
What would you like travel nurses to know about being a great traveling nurse and making your job easier?
Answer 6:

As I continue to work with travelers, I have noticed that when they keep a file of documents such as, updated resume, shot records, certifications, licenses, vaccines, and references, it makes the process for both parties smooth. Also, honesty from traveler is very important as we are here to help find contracts that you all enjoy, and we want to be able to provide the best for each and every person. If honesty is not there, then we may not be able to provide the best for everyone. We are working TOGETHER, and I will always be 100% honest with my travelers so it is amazing when I get that in return as that is what every person deserves when they are finding a job. With these few pieces of advice, I can guarantee that you and your recruiter will be sending you to a new contract with pure excitement.
