When it comes
to luggage, there is an almost endless range of possibilities. You can have
hard or soft sides; shoulder bags or cases with wheels; cloth or leather;
small, large, or gigantic sizes; and I even know someone who actually bought
a bullet-proof duffel bag! If you can imagine a feature or a particular type
of luggage, then chances are that someone manufactures it. The trick is
finding who and where. It just isn't possible for any single brick and
mortar store to stock the entire range of possibilities so you can be sure
to find the perfect luggage to fit your
needs.
In order to
have the pieces that exactly fit my luggage requirements, I became an online
shopper. At first, I didn't believe that purchasing luggage online was
really a workable option. I started with the intention only to research the
possibilities because I had a few reservations about ordering online:
mainly, 1) would shipping expenses be prohibitive; and 2) would the
delivered item be what I expected it to be from the site description.
Eventually, I did make an online purchase, and I was very happy with the
outcome. However, there are some things to consider before you do buy
luggage, or anything else, online.
Many times you
can get the best prices online, especially if you purchase directly from the
manufacturer. Just be aware of shipping costs. Shipping can be outrageous
from many online stores, unless, of course, you order a product above a
specific price. Your luggage purchases will usually qualify for free
shipping according to these rules. So, really it won't cost you any more
than it would to buy the luggage in a store. In addition, the luggage is
delivered directly to your home, which is helpful if you need a lot of
luggage and own a small car. The only drawback may be the length of time you
have to wait for your luggage; many times two or three weeks will pass
between the purchase and receipt of your luggage.
Begin your
online search with a list or description of the specific features your
luggage must have, and add some "dream" features you'd like to have if you
can find them. By having specifics in mind, you're search will be smoother
and quicker. Specifics will help you focus your search and will help you
recognize what you want when you see it. Also, a list of specifics will help
prevent you from making an impulse buy of something that really doesn't suit
your objectives.
To get started
with defining your ideal luggage, consider the following:
-
How
often will you use it (so that you know how durable it needs to be)?
-
Will it be
used every week on business or a few times a year for family vacations?
-
What
material should the pieces be made of: cloth or leather, hard sides or
soft?
-
Would you
prefer to put together individually selected items specific to your
traveling style, or would you prefer a matched set with the basics from
overnight bag to wheeled cases?
-
Should you
get a few large luggage items, or should you get several sm aller pieces
for different occasions?
Now that
you've got a good idea of what to keep in mind regarding shipping and
pricing, and you've identified specifically what you are seeking, you'll
have a fruitful time shopping online. Check at least a few different web
sites to ensure that you are getting the best value, and getting the
shipping options that meet your timeline and budget. Equipped with the right
gear, you will enjoy your travels even more than ever. |
