The constantly swirling energy that flows
around and through our bodies profoundly affects our health. All humans have
an inborn capacity to flow energy, and when our body's energy is in balance,
we are in good health. However, if our body's flow of energy is blocked, or
depleted, or becomes toxic, our health deteriorates and we experience pain
and disease. Reiki is an energetic 'medicine' that focuses on restoring the
balance of a person's body energy, thus restoring health.
Reiki (ray-key) is derived from Rei, which
means "spirit" and Ki, which means "life force" in Japanese. The Reiki
technique in giving treatments usually includes touch by hand in a directed
flow of healing energy. Depending on the situation, Reiki acts in various
ways. It will move the energy if it is blocked, increase the flow of energy
where it is insufficient, remove pain by raising the energetic level of
vibration to the frequencies our bodies need for healing, and it will
harmonize energies for restful sleep. Reiki is a gentle, non-polarized
energy that is always beneficial and never harmful.
The practice of Reiki involves the flowing
and direction of energy, and is subject like all things to universal laws.
Therefore, it is not a religion or belief system. It is an energy medicine
that can be understood according to the principles of quantum physics, (read
Michael Talbot's "Holographic Universe). One need not believe in God nor
even in Reiki for it to work.
One can perform Reiki on oneself, and on
others. We are all naturally inclined toward it, at any age. When children
fall, they naturally place their hands over their injured knee or elbow.
When a person gets a headache or stomach ache, they unconsciously lay their
hands on the painful spot. Human hands have healing vortexes of Source
energy, already coming into play in times of need. It is a healing ability
that is natural to us all, rather than being a special gift. We all can
direct healing energy, but it is not Reiki energy, nor is it usually as
powerful, without attunement from a Reiki master.
Attunement is a process in which a Reiki
master empowers students to receive and flow higher vibrations of energy.
During attunement, a Reiki master seals a series of sacred healing symbols
into the student's energy field, allowing that person to tap into and direct
the Reiki energy. The attunements enhance the student's inborn capacity to
flow the healing energy, enabling them to pass it or direct it to others.
After the student becomes a practitioner
working with clients, the Reiki treatments that are performed work by
dissolving and eliminating toxic energy. The treatments also eliminate
emotional energy blockages on many levels of being - physical, emotional,
mental, and spiritual. Reiki is a complement to other forms of therapy and
treatment, which is why adding Reiki to their set of skills is done by many
types of care givers.
Reiki is usually taught in three stages or
degrees. The attunement at each degree of training is given directly by
master to student. First degree Reiki is mainly about healing energy on the
physical level. First level energy has a certain ability to harmonize and
balance chakras, which are the places in every body where energy vortexes
exist. First level Reiki can remove negative energy from a person's auric
field, relieve stress, and heal the body of diseases in general.
Second level Reiki energy goes farther,
adding healing capacity at the mental and emotional level, which is often
were disease originates. Third level Reiki energy is spiritual in essence,
and amplifies the energies of the first and second degree to higher levels.
A Master Practitioner (Reiki Level 3) can not only give Reiki treatments,
but can also teach Reiki to others and give Reiki attunements for levels
one, two, and three.
It is the natural state of humans to
experience good health in mind and body. When a person goes out of balance,
receiving a Reiki treatment might be the "jumpstart" that is necessary to
return to the road of health. By creating a balance within, Reiki
contributes to an environment where healing can occur. |
